Rabbit Proofing Your Home
Rabbits just love to chew on all kinds of wires. Plastic tubing can cover these wires and protect your rabbit from serious injuries or even death. You can buy polycon tubing, plumbers tubing and vacuum tubing at most hardware stores. They come in various sizes, thickness and kinds of plastic. You can use a utility knife to slit the tubing lengthwise and slip the wire inside. If the rabbit chews through, you should get a different kind of tubing. You can also tape the wire(s) up on the wall or tuck them down in the edge of a carpet. Some bunnies like to chew on the corners of wood, walls and windows. To stop this you can buy hard plastic corner protectors from a hardware store. If your rabbit chews on furniture, you can buy a product called Bitter Apple. This product has an awful taste that will keep most rabbits away if you apply it to an area where your rabbit likes to chew. Bitter Apple can be purchased at pet stores. But some rabbits actually like the taste and for this you can use hot sauce. Toys will also lead your rabbit away from being destructive. You should always supply toys like; toilet paper and paper towel rolls, various untreated straw baskets, natural wood blocks, canning jar rings, rolled oats boxes with the ends cut off, soft drink cans with pebbles inside, rubber balls, wire balls with bells inside, baby toys like rattles and giant keys, hanging bird toys, rice or maize mats, cardboard boxes with openings, things to jump up on and large bouncy balls. Toys will also improve your bunny's mental health.
