Keeping Your Rabbit Cool

When the weather gets up to 80 degrees or more, you need to make sure that your rabbit is kept cool. Overweight rabbits particuarly can experience heat stress when they are too hot.
Here are some things to do to keep you bunny cool:

1. Freeze water in plastic containers and put the containers in the rabbit's cage for a portable air-conditioner.
2. Put a few tiles in the cage/running space to give the rabbit a cool place to sit.
3. Always provide a shaded area for your bunny and never put it in direct sun.
4. Use a fan.
5. Dampen your rabbit's ears with cool water.
6. Provide plenty of fresh cool water.
7. Provide plenty of fresh veggies.
8. If you have a long-haired rabbit, shear him during the summer.

If your rabbit starts to act strange, it would be a good idea to call up your vet and see if the symptoms are dangerous. If your rabbit has heat stroke, dampen its ears and body with cold water and go to your vet immediately!
