Litter Training
Step One: Teach your rabbit to go potty in its cage! Ok, spaying and neutering will help a lot if you are trying to train you bunny. They no longer have the need to mark territory and smell up everything. Let your bunny choose where he wants to go and put a high-sided litter box there. Try to choose litter that has no fragrance, doesn't clump, isn't poisonous, is organic, blah blah blah! I hear that Care Fresh is a good litter but I don't know. I use Good Mews because its cheap and available near by. My bunnies don't like the smell so I put a layer of hay on top of it and it's fine. ANYWAY, you'll want to put some nice fresh droppings in the litter box so they know whats going on. When they go in it, reward them with a raisin. If they try and go somewhere else, pick them up PROMPTLY and put them in the litter box. Don't do that AFTER they go to the bathroom on the floor or they will learn to go in their litter box after they have made a mess on the floor! Step Two: Teach your rabbit to go potty outside its cage! When they start to go in their litter box most all of the time, you can put the box out in their running space and let them out. Hopefully they will go to the bathroom in their litter box. If they don't, do the rewarding and picking up thing like you did in the cage. Treats in the litter box work well. Don't get pine or cedar shavings for your bunny, they are very bad for you poor little bunny!
